Wow! That’s it! It’s over! Finally made it to 100 webcomics! To some, this might be a small milestone, to others it’s huge. I am so glad I’ve made it.
Anyway, I have to say it again, sorry for the 7 year hiatus.
I guess the biggest question right now is “why return to this webcomic project?” My answer is that I cannot stop thinking about this project. I keep thinking about new characters and stories I wanted to share to the public. The idea of abandoning the project isn’t happening. Another answer is that after seeing David Revoy’s 10th anniversary of Pepper and Carrot webcomic series, and receiving my award for working for a company for more than 10 years … I had to review and look back what I’ve done within those years.
So around August 2024, I went back to work. First I had to move to a different host (HostGator to Neocities), then I had to make a new font I’d be proud of, re-do all the lettering for the old webcomics (and fixing typos, ouch), and finally use a webcomic template that’s easy to work with. I’m surprised that I got RSS feed to work, I was very close to giving that up.
Speaking of re-visiting older works, I have to say reading my old webcomics was indeed to some degree, cringe. Yeah the writing feels like it’s done by a 12 year old and the art is … actually okay. We all have to start somewhere. The worst thing we all can ever do is *not* make content because of fear of being judged. This project did start around 2003 so that should tell you that I’m guilty for taking a long time to get going. By the way, #28 actually made me laugh! So that’s something.
After reviewing my older works, it was clear for one thing, the story was going nowhere. I had to write down what kind of story I wanted to tell and even what ending I’d want the readers to see. This is why you may have seen #76 to #100 having a progression within the comics. Sure I’d like to have a single comic with funny gag that has nothing to do with the plot but I think it’s important to keep the train going.
Something I wanted to share is a mystery around my upload dates for my very first webcomic. What happened is that my previous webcomic template needed to have every file be named by a date. The issue is that the old cover art was made after the first few comics. Meaning I have to give the incorrect date on these files in order for the viewers to see the old cover art first and then the 1st and 2nd webcomic. After wasting time looking for my GooglePlus data, I thought about viewing my Twitter data instead. Turns out I’ve learned that I had a Tumblr page that has my webcomics.
So by hovering the mouse on the year, the date/time is:
Thursday, 6 June 2013, 12:52:00
You can check it on the about page if you are curious.
This means that my webcomic project is more than 12 years old if I am correct. I knew I had my content uploaded before the other artist’s work which is why I had to keep investigating. I guess that’s over now.
For now, please follow me on Mastadon for previews and updates on my work. You can easily see that I do not post memes or news that is happening around the world. Just my webcomics and my workflow. Right now I am currently sketching 101 to 125, the writing and thumbnails are already done.
Other extra things to say that that I finally have a personal website and thank you Krita team for having Krita on android, my hands are no longer in pain awhile using the Samsung tablet.
And of course, thank you everyone so much for reading my webcomics. My next target is 200!
